Delhi riots: Accused Shahjir Imam unable to get relief, Supreme Court refuses to hear bail

Sharjeel Imam

There is no relief for Delhi riots charges against Sharjeel Imam. The Supreme Court refused to hear Sharjeel Imam’s bail application. However, the Supreme Court made it clear that it did not consider the matter as it was a writ petition. The Supreme Court has asked the Delhi High Court to hear the bail application on the next day of hearing and take a decision as soon as possible.

A bench of Justice Bela M Trivedi was hearing the case. During the hearing, senior advocate Siddharth Dave said we have filed a writ petition. The matter is pending before the Delhi High Court, the Supreme Court said. Justice Trivedi said there were 8 FIRs in total. Dave said that the NIA Act requires a decision to be made within 3 months. The court said it has now been listed in the High Court on November 25. We will not hear the bail in the writ.

Dave said we have filed a bail application in the High Court. 64 The hearing has been held, let him be denied, but at least I will appear before you. You are the repository of fundamental rights and we have no other court. The Supreme Court said it was not willing to consider a petition under Article 32. The High Court will hear the bail application as soon as possible on the next date. Justice Trivedi said you should not come here when the High Court has not issued any order. The petition was dismissed as it should not have been filed under Section 32.
