Dengue fever has started spreading again in the country’s capital, Delhi, with officials saying on Sunday the first death of the year has been recorded as cases of the disease rise in the capital.

A 54-year-old man died of dengue at Lok Nayak Hospital last week, senior hospital officials said, according to the news agency. The man, a resident of East Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar, was admitted on August 27.

According to official records, he was declared dead on September 8. “The patient died of dengue last week,” a senior official said. According to Delhi Municipal Corporation officials, more than 650 cases of dengue have been reported in the national capital this year.

Delhi recorded 9,266 dengue cases and 19 deaths in 2023. Last year, ahead of the G20 summit, the civic body had stopped issuing weekly reports on dengue cases and deaths.

India is producing dengue vaccine

Let us tell you that India experiences dengue fever outbreaks every year during the monsoon. Many cities in the country have reported horrific cases of dengue fever, with the number of cases running into thousands. In the fight against dengue fever over the past few years, India has developed a vaccine to deal with it, named DengiAll. Amazingly, its clinical trials have already entered the third phase.

ICMR and Panacea Biotec have started Phase III clinical trials for developing dengue vaccine in India, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday. India’s indigenous quadrivalent dengue vaccine DengiAll is produced by Panacea Biotec.
