Pollution in Delhi is increasing and air quality is deteriorating day by day. Even on Tuesday, Delhi’s AQI was over 300. 16 districts in Delhi have even been classified as red zones. The reason for rising pollution in Delhi is often attributed to stubble burning in Haryana and Punjab, where small farmers have less land, MPs now say. Therefore, this is not possible for small farmers unless financial assistance is provided to them.
Congress MP Manish Tiwari said whenever pollution increases in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana are blamed, but in fact Delhi’s pollution burden is already very high and once the stubble is burned, Delhi becomes gas chamber. However, Haryana and Punjab are also taking strict measures against stubble burning and the Punjab government has identified 65 farmers, imposed a fine of Rs 1.85 lakh and registered six FIRs. In Haryana, strict action has been ordered against those who burn stubble. The Haryana government has decided to register farmers who burn stubble. If a farmer burns the straw, his crops will not be sold for the next two seasons.
