Delhi Pollution: Delhi’s pollution is getting worse every day! Air quality ‘very poor’ in many places, find out today’s AQI

The air quality in the national capital Delhi remained in the ‘poor’ category for the third consecutive day and the situation continued for the fourth consecutive day. Today, October 17, the air quality index (AQI) has reached the “very poor” category in many parts of Delhi. However, pollution levels had not been measured anywhere in the “severe” category till 7 am.

Let me tell you that the air quality index in some areas yesterday (October 16th) was severe. Talking about the causes of pollution, traffic emissions account for about 19.2% of Delhi’s air pollution, according to the Delhi Air Quality Management Center Decision Support System. In addition, straw burning also occurs in neighboring countries. Satellite data showed that 99 fire incidents broke out in Punjab, 14 in Haryana, 59 in Uttar Pradesh and one in Delhi on Wednesday.

As winter approaches, Delhiites are already feeling the effects of worsening air quality. The air quality index read 230 at 4am on Wednesday, down from 207 at the main monitoring station on Tuesday. Speaking of the weather, the minimum temperature is starting to drop now and it feels a little cooler. How is air quality measured?

A place is considered “good” if its AQI is between 0 and 50, “satisfactory” if its AQI is between 51 and 100, and “satisfactory” if its AQI is between 101 and 200 , is considered “satisfactory”. If a place’s AQI is between 201 and 300, it is considered “moderate.” If the area’s AQI is considered “poor”. If the AQI is between 301 and 400, it is considered to be in the “very bad” category, and if the AQI is between 401 and 500, it is considered to be in the “severe” category. Let us tell you that although pollution levels improved slightly in the capital yesterday, GRAP-1 restrictions have been implemented. GRAP-1 imposes the following restrictions.

  • The roads are mechanized for cleaning and watering on a regular basis.
  • Application of dust suppression technology at construction sites
  • Strictly discharge pollutant vehicles, and strengthen traffic management and emission control in industries, power plants, brick kilns, etc.
  • Open burning of garbage is prohibited, the use of diesel generators is restricted, and the use of coal or firewood in restaurants is prohibited.
  • Complaints on social media platforms such as 311APP, Green Delhi APP, SameerAPP, etc. should be handled promptly to curb polluting behaviors.
  • Offices are encouraged to introduce integrated mobility for employees to reduce road traffic
  • Advice on avoiding firecrackers and celebrating the holidays in an environmentally friendly way

Stage 1 – “Poor” (AQI 201-300);
Stage 2 – “very poor” (AQI 301-400);
Stage 3 – “Severe” (AQI 401-450);
