Delhi Police filed FIR against CJI DY Chandrachud’s wife for posting on social media

The Cyber ​​Unit of the Special Cell of Delhi Police has registered an FIR in connection with the indecent comments made on social media against Supreme Court Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and his wife. This case is related to the spread of false and incorrect information with the intention of tarnishing the reputation of the Chief Justice and the judiciary.

Delhi Police said that they had received a complaint from the Supreme Court’s Admin Security Office on September 9, 2024. The complaint mentioned an objectionable tweet and Facebook post, which was based on false facts and aimed at tarnishing the image of the judiciary. On this, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has registered an FIR on September 10, 2024 and started investigation. The FIR has been registered under sections 356, 217, 351, 61(2)(a) of the Indian Penal Code and section 66(C) of the IT Act.

A similar case has also come to light in West Bengal, where a person has been booked for spreading false news on social media with the aim of defaming Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and attacking the reputation of the Supreme Court. West Bengal Police said that a case has been registered against Sujit Haldar of Fulbari at Krishnaganj Police Station. Police said that this fake news was spread with the intention of creating distrust among the people and disrupting public peace. Police has appealed to the general public not to spread false news.
West Bengal Police through its social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) has also warned people to avoid such activities and stay away from rumours.
