There was so much rain and strong winds in Delhi-NCR on Friday (13 September) that the sky became quite clear. Due to the rain, the air quality was recorded to be good in many areas. Not only this, this day became the day with the cleanest air this year. There was a lot of improvement in the 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) in Faridabad. Today Ghaziabad’s AQI was recorded at 34 and Noida’s AQI was recorded at 46, all of which fall in the “good” category. Delhi’s air is more dangerous, but today Delhi’s AQI was also recorded at 52, which is considered “good” and “satisfactory”.

Delhi becomes clean due to heavy rain and strong winds
The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Gurugram was slightly high, but it was one of the cleanest days in recent times. The Air Quality Index in Gurugram was 69. Air quality was also improved in other areas. The Air Quality Index was recorded at 21 in Bulandshahr, 28 in Meerut and 29 in Muzaffarnagar. All these places had clear skies and clean air. This significant change has happened due to depression activity and active monsoon trough. Because Delhi-NCR received sufficient rainfall in the last 3-4 days. Heavy rains and wind speed of 30-40 km per hour have removed the pollution properly. Due to which the atmosphere has been described as clean and breathable. The monsoon season is still active, so we can hope that there will be more relief from the constantly bothering pollution problems.

How is air quality measured?
If the AQI of an area is between zero to 50 then the AQI is considered ‘good’, if the AQI is between 51 to 100 then it is considered ‘satisfactory’, if it is between 101 to 200 then it is considered ‘moderate’, if the AQI of a place is between 201 to 300 then the AQI of that area is considered ‘bad’. If the AQI is between 301 to 400 then it is considered ‘very bad’ and if the AQI is between 401 to 500 then it is considered in the ‘severe’ category. Air pollution can cause many types of diseases.
