A fierce clash broke out between two groups during the Ganesh idol immersion procession in Nagamangala, Karnataka, after which the mob targeted several shops and vehicles and vandalised and set them on fire, creating a tense situation.

According to the news agency report, the police said that 52 people have been arrested after the incident and as a precautionary measure, prohibitory orders have been imposed in the city till September 14, prohibiting the gathering of more than four people. This incident happened on Wednesday night.

Policemen also got injured

Let us tell you that in the stone pelting between two groups over idol immersion, some people including two policemen suffered minor injuries. An officer said that the situation has been brought under control and additional security forces have been deployed.

According to the police, when the Ganesh idol procession from Badrikoppalu village reached a place of worship on Wednesday, an argument broke out between two groups and some miscreants pelted stones, worsening the situation.

He said that after the clash between the two groups on Wednesday night, some shops were vandalised and goods were burnt and vehicles were set on fire. To control the situation, the police used mild force to disperse the crowd.

CM Siddaramaiah issued a strict warning to miscreants

A group of youths taking out a procession protested near the police station demanding immediate arrest of those responsible for the violence. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the violence was an act of miscreants which threatened the peace of society.

He said the government has taken the incident seriously and warned that strict action will be taken against those trying to create division on religious grounds, regardless of caste or religion.

It was a sudden incident, not communal violence: Minister

He said on the social media platform ‘X’, ‘I request the public to maintain peace and exercise restraint without getting provoked and cooperate with us.’ Home Minister G. Parameshwara said that the clashes cannot be called ‘communal violence’ as it is an accidental incident.
