Santo Domingo:
Officials said on Wednesday that the devastating roof collapse on Tuesday at a popular nightclub in the capital of the Republic of Dominican said on Wednesday that the discovery of the remaining people becomes rapidly serious.
During Wednesday night, families waited outside the jet set nightclub debris in Santo Domingo, who were eager for information about their missing relatives and sharing photos with police.
More than 150 people were rescued from the rubble on Tuesday. From that afternoon, however, the authorities have not evacuated any remaining people.
Juan Manuel Mendez, head of the country’s emergency operating center, said that rescue workers would need another 24 to 36 hours to complete their discovery. Emergency employees deployed heavy machinery to speed up recovery efforts.
The tragedy appeared during a concert by popular Dominican Merangue singer Rubby Perez. The incident, who drew politicians, athletes and other major figures, turned into a bad dream after midnight as the roof suddenly fell.
Perez was one of the victims. His body was recovered on Wednesday morning.
Both former Major League baseball players were also killed.
Another victim Nelsi Cruise, Governor of North Monte Christie province, President Louis Abinadar said. Cruise was the sister of former MLB player Nelson Cruise, who was a seven-time all-star.
The son of the Minister of Public Works and Communications also died in the disaster.
