Wanted to make Varun a banker

Before Student of the Year, Varun had assisted Karan Johar during the film My Name is Khan. In an interview given to Arbaaz Khan, David told how Varun himself had approached Karan so that he could launch him in the industry. Whereas David and his wife Karuna Dhawan felt that he could do good work as a banker.

David said- Varun came back after studying abroad and I asked- What do you want to do in life? Karuna said- Nowadays everyone is doing bank job. We never talked about films. But suddenly Varun went to Karan Johar and said- I want to assist you. Obviously, Karan knew our family well and they went abroad to work on ‘My Name is Khan’. It was the cameraman, Ravi Chandran, who had asked Karan to keep an eye on him.

Insecure with Siddharth

Along with this, David told how Varun started feeling insecure with Siddharth. David said- Karan came to our house and said that he wants to launch Varun and they also did a photoshoot with Siddharth Malhotra. David was often on the sets during the shooting of Student of the Year. Recalling, he said- I was with him and for some days Varun was very upset. Then I told Varun – Such things happen in films with two heroes. Listen son, you are very good. Your confidence is something else. Don’t be afraid, go ahead.

Talking about Varun’s work front, the actor is going to release Bhediya 2 soon. He is also preparing for his OTT debut with Citadel Honey Bunny. Samantha Ruth Prabhu will be with him in this.
