After the central government, two states now give Diwali gifts to government employees. The state government announced an increase in allowances for employees even before Diwali. The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has increased the dearness allowance for 1.7 million state employees and teachers. Apart from this, the Arunachal Pradesh government has also increased the living allowance. Both states increased the allowances for employees and pensioners by 3%.
Following the central government’s hike in subsidy, both states have decided to hike it on the occasion of Diwali. The increase will take effect from July 1, 2024. After an increase of 3%, now UP government employees will get 53% Dearness Allowance (DA) and it will be added to the salary till October 30.
How much money will you save on Diwali?
Before Diwali, the unpaid DA for the month of July will be sent to the employee account in the amount of Rs 6,908. In addition, October’s salary will also be credited. While 25% of the bonus amount of Rs 1,727 will be transferred to this account, the remaining 75% will be transferred to the General Provident Fund (GPF) account. This decision will impose an additional burden of Rs 1,022 crore on the Uttar Pradesh government.
These employees will also get Rs 7,000
UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday announced Diwali bonus for around 15 lakh non-electronics state employees. Following the announcement, the Finance Ministry issued a government order providing details of the bonus. Eligible employees before Diwali will receive a bonus equivalent to one month’s salary, up to a maximum of Rs 7,000. Additionally, only employees with one year of continuous service by March 31, 2024 will be eligible for the bonus. These employees will receive a bonus of up to Rs 7,000, which will be paid along with their October salary.
Arunachal Pradesh also increases DA
The Arunachal Pradesh government also announced a 3% increase in salary allowance and wage deduction for employees and pensioners. The increase will take effect from July 1, 2024. With this increase, DA and DR will increase from 50% to 53%. After this announcement, 68,818 employees in the state will receive benefits.
Deputy Chief Minister Chauna Mein announced on October 23 that the increase was in line with central government policy. In addition to this, the House Rent Subsidy (HRA) rate is adjusted to 30%, 20% and 10% depending on the city category. The decision is expected to have a financial impact of Rs 6,392 crore between July 2024 and March 2025.
