Cyclone Style devastation: Five bodies recovered from houses buried under rubble in Tamil Nadu, red alert issued in Kerala

Cyclone Style continues to wreak havoc in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Many people died in the rains and landslides triggered by the hurricane. There is also a chance of heavy rain over the next few days. In this situation, the NDRF and SDRP have deployed multiple rescue teams to participate in the rescue operation. Relief operations are underway in areas of Tamil Nadu that have been devastated by rains. Rescue teams recovered five bodies from the rubble of Annamalayar hill. After an intensive search that began on Monday morning, the five bodies were found in the house that was buried under mud and rocks after heavy rains on December 1. Police said rescuers found the body of a child on Monday night and later found four more bodies. Starting from the evening of December 1, affected by Cyclone Fingal, landslides occurred in hilly areas.

Police said the bodies had been sent to a government hospital and that a woman was among the dead. Residents of VOC Nagar at the foothills told officials that a couple, their two children and three other children were trapped in a house that suffered a landslide on the night of December 1. The search for two other missing persons continues.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday warned of heavy rains in Kerala due to cyclone Style. The cyclone has now weakened into a low pressure area over the northern interior parts of Tamil Nadu and extended to the southern interior parts of Karnataka. Meteorologists expect the system to move further and develop further and may appear over the southeastern and east-central Arabian Sea near the north coast of Kerala and Karnataka around December 3. Light to moderate rain is expected in most parts of Kerala, while heavy rain and thundershowers are expected at isolated places. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in northern and central parts of the state on Tuesday.

Rain expected to continue for five days

Intermittent light to moderate rain with occasional thunderstorms is expected over the next five days, the IMD said. A red alert was issued on Monday for five northern districts: Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram. Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki, Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts are on orange alert, while Kottayam and Pathanamthitta are on yellow alert. Officials said a red alert has been issued in Wayanad and NDRF teams are on standby. He said that there are five NDRF teams in Kerala.

Two teams deployed at Sabarimala

Two teams have been deployed in Sabarimala and one each in Pathanamthitta and Thrissur districts. State Revenue Minister Rajan urged residents to remain vigilant as rains are likely to intensify in north Kerala. According to the IMD, a red alert indicates more than 20 cm of rainfall in 24 hours, an orange alert indicates rainfall between 11 cm and 20 cm, and a yellow alert indicates rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm. Authorities visited the coast of Kerala on December 2 and 3, the south coast of Karnataka on December 2, the coast of Karnataka on December 3, and the coast of Karnataka on December 3 and 5. The dam gates are about to open

The district administrations of Kasaragod, Malappuram, Thrissur and Alappuzha on Tuesday declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including vocational colleges, tuition centres, anganwadis and madrasas. However, the government clarified that model boarding schools will remain open. Kasaragod District Collector announced that the holiday will not be applicable for pre-scheduled examinations. The Thrissur District Collector said the holiday will not be applicable for school art festivals or residential educational institutions in the revenue district. Earlier on Monday, a holiday was also announced for educational institutions such as vocational colleges and anganwadis in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kottayam and Wayanad districts.
