Cyclone Dana: The miracle of these two ISRO satellites tells the complete story before the storm arrives

Storm Dana is moving rapidly towards Odisha and West Bengal. Storm Dana can reach between Puri in Odisha and Sagar Island in West Bengal with a speed of 120 kilometers per hour. Coastal state governments are evacuating people to safe locations. The fishermen have tied their boats to the shore. But how do we know a storm is coming?

Who told the Central Government, Meteorological Department, Odisha or West Bengal Government? Actually this is ISRO’s best scientific institute in the country. ISRO’s two satellites EOS-06 and INSAT-3DR are tracking the storm from space. Since its construction, the weather department has received every latest update in real time.

What do the EOS-06 and INSAT-3DR satellites do?

There is a device installed in EOS-06, its name is Scatterometer Sensor. It provides information about the sea breezes blowing across the sea and their circulation. That is, once the rotation increases more and cyclones begin to form. It will sound an alarm immediately. This is a polar satellite. It was launched two years ago on November 26, 2022, on a PSLV-C54 rocket.

INSAT-3DR is a geostationary satellite. It tracks the entire process of cloud formation. Using light to study weather changes in India. This means brightness temperature. Each light has its own color and temperature. Through calculations, it can tell whether a storm is forming. This satellite is built for weather. It was launched on September 8, 2016.

What is the current status of Cyclone Dana?

Cyclonic storm Dana, which is expected to hit Odisha and Bengal, will hit the coast today (October 24). When this storm hits the ground, it can reach speeds of 120 to 130 kilometers per hour. Affected by the storm, strong winds and heavy rains are likely to occur in Odisha and Bengal.
