In this regard, the department has issued an announcement that cyclonic storm “Dana” is expected to move northwestward and hit the north coast from midnight on October 24 to the morning of October 25. There is a possibility of crossing between Puri and Sagar Island in Odisha and West Bengal. During this period, wind speeds can reach 100-110 kilometers per hour.

Manorama Mohanty, director of the Regional Meteorological Center in Bhubaneswar, said that cyclonic storm Dana is likely to move to the west and southwest, which may bring belts to southern Odisha around October 26. Roads were blocked and traffic was disrupted in parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Bhitarkanika and Puri.

56 NDRF teams deployed in 5 states

In view of Cyclone Dana, the NDRF has deployed a total of 56 teams in 5 states including Odisha and West Bengal. Odisha has deployed 20 teams, including one as a reserve team, while West Bengal has deployed 13 of its 17 teams as reserves. In addition to the NDRF, SDRF teams from the countries concerned are also deployed in these areas. The NDRF has deployed nine teams each in Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand and one team in Chhattisgarh as these states are likely to experience heavy rains and flooding following the arrival of the cyclone.

16 flights canceled due to Dana

In view of the ongoing developments in Dana, flight operations at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar will be suspended for 16 hours from Thursday (i.e. this evening). In a statement released, it was stated that due to Cyclone Storm Dana, the airport will continue to suspend operations from 5 pm on October 24 to 9 am on October 25. Officials said that more than 100 flights are operated from the Bhubaneswar airport every day and about 15,000 people travel.

190 local trains canceled

Dana believes Eastern Railway will not operate 190 local trains on its Sealdah division from 8pm on Thursday to 10am on Friday. Southeastern Railway announced on Tuesday that more than 150 express and passenger trains passing through the region have been canceled due to the impact of the cyclone. Eastern Railway also canceled around 198 trains passing through the area on Tuesday.
