Mayotte’s worst hurricane in 90 years
He had earlier said that this (Chido) was the worst cyclone to hit Mayotte in 90 years. Bovell said it was difficult to determine the exact number of casualties from the deadly cyclone that hit Mayotte on Saturday. The hurricane caused extensive damage to public infrastructure, including airports.
Many areas were devastated by Cyclone Chido. Power supply has been stopped. The French Interior Ministry confirmed on Sunday that 11 people had been killed and more than 250 injured. France had sent additional troops, including 140 civil defense soldiers and firefighters, to the rescue. The cyclone moved across the southeastern Indian Ocean, also affecting the Comoros and Madagascar. Mayotte came directly into the path of the hurricane. So there was huge damage here.
