In Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, cyber criminals defrauded an elderly man of Rs 52 lakh by threatening him with jail time. The cyber criminals pressured the elderly man to transfer the money by claiming that an FIR had been registered against him in Mumbai.

Based on the complaint of the 67-year-old victim, Yogesh Chand Srivastava, a resident of Railway Road in Rishikesh, the Dehradun Cyber ​​Crime Police Station has registered an FIR in connection with the incident.

Giving information about the incident, Cyber ​​Crime Police Station SHO Girish Sharma told PTI that he suspected the fraudsters had accessed the account of Yogesh Chand Srivastava through cloning and transferred the funds.

The SHO further said that there is also a possibility that the victim may transfer the money on his own after falling into the trap of the fraudsters.

The police officer said the victim was under pressure as the scammer told him that an FIR had been filed against him at the Tilak Nagar police station in Mumbai and a copy of the alleged FIR was also shared on his WhatsApp number.

The SHO said the victim, Yogesh Chand Srivastava, was defrauded of a total of Rs 5.25 lakh. He said the victim might have downloaded an app which made it easy for the fraudsters to clone the phone and access the account. He told reporters that the matter is under investigation.
