Nupada: A surprising case was discovered in Odisha’s Nupada district. Here, a leopard is hunted, then cooked and eaten. Two other people were arrested in the case and the leopard head was found.

What’s going on?

Two people were arrested for violating wildlife protection laws in Nupada district. A leopard is trapped in a trap set for hunting wild boar in the forest near Deodara village. Pustam Chinda (58) and Hrishikesh Chinda (40) allegedly killed the leopard, skinned it, cooked the meat and ate it.

According to the forest department, the incident occurred on November 16. Acting on a tip-off, forest officials raided the hideout of the accused and found leopard skin, leopard head and cooked meat there. However, his two companions managed to escape the scene.

Md Mustafa Saleha, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Kariyar Forest Division, said the investigation is on and the arrested accused will be produced before the court. The special team is busy searching for the absconding accused.

The forest department has appealed to local communities to cooperate in wildlife conservation efforts and report such incidents to the relevant authorities immediately. The hunting of endangered species such as leopards not only destroys the identity of the species but also affects the balance of the environment.
