This statement was not intended to target any community, nor was it intended to hurt anyone’s feelings. Nonetheless, if my remarks hurt anyone’s feelings, I retract my words and apologize unconditionally.
Somaiya demands strict action
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya has asked the Election Commission to take action against Maulana Nomani. Somaiya said it was clear from the apology that his remarks were inflammatory and created tension in society. “The Maulana himself has admitted that his remarks incited one religion and hurt the sentiments of another society,” he said. “In this case, strict action should be taken against them.” Somaiya also said that it is not just a question of Maulana’s apology but the responsibility of all leaders who support such remarks.
