A major rail accident was averted late last night in Kanpur. A conspiracy was hatched to derail the Kalindi Express by placing a gas cylinder on the track. The driver stopped the train by applying brakes and informed the authorities about it. Glass bottles filled with petrol, matchsticks, gunpowder etc. have been found from the spot. At present, UP ATS and other agencies have started investigation. However, this is not the first case when such an incident has happened in or around Kanpur. Two-three such incidents have happened in the last few months.

Earlier, on the night of 16-17 August, 22 coaches of Sabarmati Express (19168) including the engine derailed on Kanpur-Jhansi route. Fortunately, there was no loss of life in this accident. The driver of the train that met with the accident had said that the accident happened due to a boulder hitting the engine. At present, this accident is also under investigation.

In Kanpur Sabarmati Express There was a conspiracy to overturn the train like the Indore-Patna Express eight years ago, in which 152 passengers lost their lives. The accused arrested from Bihar had revealed that he had overturn the Indore-Patna Express after taking money. On Saturday night (16-17 August), an attempt was made to overturn the Sabarmati Express going from Patna to Ahmedabad between Govindpuri and Bhimsen station at 2:30 am, in which a 3 feet long piece of rail track was placed in front of the engine.

There, on the night of 24-25 August Farrukhabad A major railway accident was averted due to the alertness of the loco pilot. Here some unruly elements tried to derail the Kasganj-Farrukhabad Express train (number 05389). Actually, they had placed a heavy wooden log on the railway track. This log got stuck in the engine due to which the train stood at the spot for about 25 minutes. As soon as the information of the incident was received, railway workers reached the spot and removed the log.

However, just a week later, the police busted the case by arresting two youths (Kamlesh and Mohan) for plotting to overturn a train by placing a wooden plank on the track near Bhatasa station in Farrukhabad. Both the youths told the police that they wanted to become famous by overturning the train. After the incident, both of them were trying to go to Delhi due to fear, but the police caught them before that.

Similarly, on 23 August 2024, an accident was averted in Shamli district. Actually, about 25 to 30 pendrol clips were found missing at four places at a distance of 50 meters near Shamli bypass on Delhi Saharanpur railway line. A student who had come there for a walk informed the railway about this. After which, taking cognizance of the matter, the railway track was repaired by installing pendrol clips.

Now there is a conspiracy to overturn Kalindi Express

According to Kanpur Police and RPF, on the night of 8th September at around 8.30 pm, Kalindi Express collided with a filled LPG cylinder kept on the railway track between Barrajpur and Bilhaur on Anwarganj-Kasganj railway line. The loco pilot said that he saw some suspicious object on the track after which he applied brakes, but even after that the object collided with the train which made a very loud noise. The driver stopped the train and informed the guard and others about this.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, the Railway Superintendent of Anwarganj station, RPF and other railway officials reached the spot. When the investigation was done, the police found many dangerous things like a cylinder, petrol bottle, matchsticks and gunpowder in the bushes. Forensic teams also investigated and sent all the suspicious objects for investigation.

Meanwhile, to investigate this incident, the team of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and other agencies have reached the spot and started investigation. Kanpur and Lucknow units of ATS have collected evidence by reaching the spot. In this case, Additional Commissioner Harish Chandra said that whoever has done this will be caught. Investigation is being done on all points.

The police is also investigating whether the Jamaat or people from outside had placed the cylinder on the tracks. Because, there is a shrine of Hazrat Badiuddin Zinda Shah in Makanpur of Bilhaur, a large number of Jamaatis from the country and abroad keep coming here. In such a situation, the police has also included the Jamaatis in the ambit of investigation. At the same time, the box of sweets in which petrol and gunpowder were recovered and from where the matchsticks were found are also being investigated. ADCP LIU has also deployed a team.

At present, five teams have been formed by the police to solve the case. Apart from this, the police have also detained two history-sheeters, who are being questioned.
