Generally, the activities of the party from the birth of Congress to the time when Gandhiji took over its command are not discussed. Historians have also almost stopped working on that period and the big faces of that period. Journalist Vishnu Sharma’s book ‘Congress Presidents Files’ preserves the interesting events of that untouched part with research.

The most interesting thing in ‘Congress Presidents Files’ is to know every word of the oath that was read in Congress sessions for loyalty to the British rule, it was called ‘Loyalty of Oath’. There are many facts in this book that will surprise the common readers like one president was a descendant of Tipu Sultan, another’s family came to India with Babar and went to Pakistan with Jinnah. One’s ancestors were Aurangzeb’s teachers, the judge who sentenced Savarkar to Kala Pani was also the President of Congress. One had declared the Queen of Britain as an incarnation, another had built Victoria Memorial.

Akshay Kumar is also going to make a movie on one of these Congress presidents, whose grandson was once the National Security Advisor in the Manmohan government. This person is considered famous because this Congress president went to London and fought a case against General Dyer. But Vishnu Sharma’s book raises many questions on this claim ‘A Case that Shook the Empire’, it also tells that this same president once wrote a book on Gandhiji called ‘Gandhi and Anarchy’.

This book has a total of 352 pages and has 35 chapters. The special thing is that there is no direct connection between one chapter and another and they seem like 35 different stories.

As the name suggests, ‘Congress Presidents Files’ is actually a compilation of controversial aspects related to former Congress presidents. Which seems like a deliberate attempt to prove them villains in the current political environment. If you are against Congress, then you may like this book, but if you have been its supporter, then it will feel like a propaganda type. Earlier, the author has also depicted the controversial aspects of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s political career through his book Indira Files. This book also seems to be written with the same pattern and purpose which Vishnu Sharma himself describes in the tagline of his book, ‘A treasure trove of facts, which will change your opinion about Congress’.

Apart from ‘Indira Files’, Vishnu Sharma has also written ’50 Viral Truths of History’ and ‘Glorious Tales of Unknown Heroes’. He is a film critic and has been on the jury of the International Film Festival, Goa (IFFI) for two years. He has been active in journalism for 25 years.
