Indian Railways recently changed the names of eight railway stations in Uttar Pradesh and now Lok Sabha MP from Akbarpur Devendra Singh Bhole has demanded the name of one more station to be changed. He met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and suggested that the name of Katara Road station on the Kanpur-Banda railway line be changed to ‘Kathara Dham’. The BJP MP said that the move is justified and necessary given the historical, religious and cultural importance of Katara village.

In his letter to the Railway Minister, Devendra Singh Bole said that Katara village is an important religious and historical place in Kanpur Nagar district. A rare statue of Lord Banke Bihari, which is 300 years old, is located here, making it a famous pilgrimage site. Every year, Krishna Janmotsav and Dadhikandhav Mahotsav are celebrated here with great pomp, which is given special recognition across the state. Due to this religious event, thousands of devotees are attracted to Katara Dham, and thus the area has become a major hub for religious tourism.

Why the name change? Congressman told

He said that apart from this, Katara village has a glorious history. Many famous people like freedom fighters, district council president, Uttar Pradesh legislative council chairman were born here. Considering the myth of the village and its important history, naming Katara road station as ‘Kathara Dham’ will be a meaningful step.

The MP said that considering the myth and glorious history, it is very important to identify the station with the name ‘Kathara Dham’. With this change, the religious and cultural heritage of Kathara village will be properly respected and tourism will also get a boost with the devotees.
