The Congress is in trouble as the Uddhav group is unhappy with Maharashtra’s nomination for Dangal. The Congress said that while party candidates have filed nominations for certain seats, only those who get a green signal from the party can contest the elections.
Congress chief Ramesh Chennithala and Congress president Nana Patole told reporters in Mumbai that candidates for some seats would withdraw their nominations.
Talking to reporters, Chennithala said that there was no friendly fight between Maha Vikas Aghadi. We will fight for the election in unity. Only those to whom we give AB form can take part in the battle. Seats whose forms have not been submitted must withdraw their names.
Uddhav Group expresses dissatisfaction
The Shiv Sena’s Uddhav party expressed dissatisfaction over this. Party spokesperson Sanjay Raut said the Congress has also fielded candidates for the seats we are contesting. Raut said the Sangli pattern in the Lok Sabha was being repeated in the Assembly elections. In fact, the Sangli seat was won by the Shiv Sena (UBT) in the Lok Sabha elections.
Nonetheless, Congress rebel Vishal Patil joined the fray from here. Due to Patil, the Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate slipped to the third position. After the elections, Vishal Patil joined the Congress.
The Uddhav faction said it would convene a meeting soon to demand the withdrawal of candidates from those seats where parties had fielded candidates violating the principles of the alliance.
Both have fielded candidates in these seats
Uddhav and the Shiv Sena (UBT) have jointly fielded candidates in about a dozen seats. Among the seats where candidates have been fielded, Bandra-East, Nashik Central and Ramtek seats are the most prominent.
From the Ramtek seat in Vidarbha, Chandrapal Choksey is contesting on the Congress Party symbol and Vishal Barbate on the Shiv Sena (UBT) symbol. Likewise, both Uddhav’s army and Congress fielded candidates from the Nashik central seat. Shiv Sena (UBT) has handed over the flag to Basantrao Geete. Ghulam Ghaus ran for Congress.
Both the Congress and the Shiv Sena (UBT) have fielded candidates in the Bandra East seat as well. The Congress has awarded the symbol to Arjun Singh here while Varun Sardesai is from the Shiv Sena (UBT).
The Congress and Shivsena have also fielded candidates in the 3 seats contested by their ally SP. These include the Bhiwandi West seat in Dhule city.
