'Committed to global sustainability': PM Modi virtually inaugurates India Energy Week

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the third edition of India Energy Week (IEW) 2025 on Tuesday. The four-day event will bring together ministers, CEOs, and industry leaders from around the world to discuss key energy sector developments.
“Every expert in the world is saying that the 21st Century belongs to India. India is not only driving its own growth but also driving the world’s growth and our energy sector plays a very big role in this. India’s energy ambitions are standing on five pillars – we have the resources that we are harnessing. Second, we are encouraging our brilliant minds to innovate. Third, we have economic strength and political stability. Fourth, India has a strategic geography that makes energy trade more lucrative and easier. Fifth, India is committed to global sustainability,” PM Modi said while virtually inaugurating the event.

The prime minister added, “The next two decades are very crucial for ‘Viksit Bharat’. In the next five years, we will be crossing several big milestones. Several of our energy goals have been aligned according to 2030 deadline. We want to add 500-gigawatt renewable energy capacity by the year 2030. Indian Railways has kept a target of net zero carbon emission by 2030. Out targets may look very ambitious, however, whatever India has achieved in the last 10 years gives us the confidence that we will achieve these targets too.”
The India Energy Week Conferences host discussions led by global energy leaders, policymakers, and experts, focusing on key issues such as energy security, sustainability, new technologies, and the shift toward a low-carbon future.
The event, held over an area of 1 lakh square meters, will be the second-largest energy gathering globally in terms of participation, exhibition space, and sessions. More than 70,000 delegates are expected to attend.
Key themes at the event include energy security, transition, collaboration, resilience, innovation, and digital advancements. A Clean Cooking Ministerial will also take place on the sidelines, focusing on expanding clean cooking solutions globally. India will showcase its experience with the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) at the ministerial.
“IEW 2025 is poised to be bigger, diverse, and more impactful than its previous two editions,” Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri said on Monday.
Over 20 foreign ministers and deputy ministers from countries including Qatar, the UK, Russia, Brazil, Tanzania, and Venezuela are attending. Heads of international organizations like the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), International Energy Forum (IEF), International Energy Agency (IEA), and the Economic Research Institute for Asean and East Asia (ERIA) are also participating.
Around 90 CEOs from Fortune 500 energy companies, including Honeywell, Petrobras, Technip Energies, ADNOC, Baker Hughes, and Vitol, will be present at the event. There are 10 country-specific pavilions, along with a Sustainable Mobility Pavilion set up by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
