The effectiveness of Yogi Adityanath’s slogan “Batenge to Katenge” will also be tested in the by-elections to nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. The reason is that this slogan of the UP chief minister, who is personally leading the by-elections, is seen as a confrontation with the caste mobilization of the opposition. The slogan bore fruit in the Haryana elections recently and its cry has been heard in Maharashtra and Jharkhand as well. In this context, the slogan is sure to resonate at rallies and public meetings during the UP by-elections. Now, after getting the Sangh’s support, there are signs that the BJP’s political strategy in the 2027 UP Assembly elections will be based on this.
The assembly by-elections in nine seats in Uttar Pradesh are very important for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. However, buoyed by its performance in the Lok Sabha elections, the opposition, especially the Samajwadi Party, is not only raising its voice in the state but wants to maintain the same performance. Meanwhile, the slogan “Batenge to Katenge” raised by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the Haryana elections has become central to the by-elections in Uttar Pradesh.

The reason is that the opposition is focusing on caste and trying to encircle the Yogi government through caste divisions in everything from encounters to deaths in police custody. In this context, in order to convey a message of unity to all castes, the party decided to take Yogi’s “radical” slogan “Batenge to Katenge” to the center of the by-election.
Strategists hopeful on political analysis of Haryana election slogans
In fact, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister tried to unite castes by raising this slogan during the Haryana elections and the results were pleasing for the BJP. The Sangh’s motivation was also seen as an important factor in his victory in this election, while the result of the Sangh’s declining motivation was evident in the Lok Sabha elections. Now, in the very important BJP assembly by-elections, the entire responsibility falls on Yogi Adityanath.
In this context, the party’s strategists relied on this slogan to unite all castes under the image of their brand “Hindu”. According to sources, the Samajwadi Party has been outspoken about caste in this conflict, which has further increased the need for caste unity. Apart from this, the BJP also hopes to achieve better electoral results by uniting the Hindu community.
Strategy to be decided around slogan for UP Assembly elections
Meanwhile, at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh executive committee meeting in Mathura, Sangh’s Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale endorsed the slogan while also clearing the way for further strategy by the Sangh. In fact, Sangh believed that uniting society had been the Sangh’s goal from the beginning. Sangh officials said the Sangh believed from the beginning that the country should be united. If the country is divided, society suffers. Whether it is the Sangh’s harmony program or the organization of a branch, its principles apply to everything. In such a situation, the most important thing to note today is that society should not be divided. In this case, Sanger is doing the same thing again. There are also signs that in the days to come, the Sangh will reach out to the people and improve their understanding.
2027 elections are most important for Sangh
On the occasion of its centenary year, the Sangh does not want to let the problems that have started from the beginning, especially in the Hindi heartland, unravel in any way. Although the Sangh was openly part of the political project, the reason for the BJP’s success in conquering caste over the past decade was the groundwork the Sangh did on the caste issue. The Sangh paid special attention to the backward untouchable castes and extremely backward forest-dwelling communities. In 2014, BJP strategists succeeded in winning elections by uniting castes, but this supremacy continues to be broken down in 2019 and 2024.

Meanwhile, now the strategists of the BJP and especially the Sangh believe that just talking about development and the promise of higher incomes will not get people connected. Sangh theorist Saurabh Malviya believes that the unity of Hindu religion and society has always been the goal of the Sangh. Saurabh Malviya said “Sangh is a socio-cultural organisation”. Preserving Indian culture, civilization and timeless traditions is the responsibility of every Hindu. If Hinduism continues to exist, world brotherhood and world humanity will remain happy. This is our approach. Hindu society should remain united despite the ill effects of political opportunism. We see a history of Hindu society weakening and disintegrating.
