India’s neighbouring country China is going to train 3 thousand foreign law enforcement officers (security personnel) next year. Its aim is to strengthen its position as a leading security provider worldwide. This was announced by Chinese Minister Wang Xiaohong on an open platform.

27 officers were trained

China’s ambitious program is part of President Xi Jinping’s global security initiative, which was launched in 2022. The announcement comes after China’s recent efforts, under which 2,700 officers from various countries were trained last year. The training program covers several countries and regions, with the participation of law enforcement agencies from 122 countries and international organizations, including Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan and Interpol.

Preparations to tackle cross border crimes

China will also send police advisers and task units abroad to improve local law enforcement capabilities, conduct joint patrols and help combat cross-border crimes, Wang said.
“We will send police advisers to countries in need to train them and help them rapidly and effectively improve their law enforcement capabilities,” Wang said during the conference.

The programme is part of China’s larger ambition to extend its security influence beyond its borders and protect its growing overseas interests, particularly in regions linked to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

What is behind this move of China?

The Lianyungang Summit is widely seen as a platform to promote China’s GSI, launched by Xi Jinping to foster international cooperation and address security challenges. The initiative offers an alternative to Western-led security governance, particularly the global order dominated by the US.
