Chief Minister Atish writes to Home Minister Amit Shah saying ‘Rohingyas are being deliberately settled in Delhi’

Delhi Chief Minister Atish

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has leveled many accusations against the central government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the Rohingya refugee issue in Delhi. On Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Atish wrote to Home Minister Amit Shah seeking a reply on the issue. He claimed that resettling Rohingya refugees in Delhi was a “well-thought-out decision” by the BJP. Atish called this a serious challenge to law, order and security in Delhi.

Chief Minister Atish said that a tweet issued by the Home Ministry in 2022 proved that the central government decided to house the Rohingyas in the EWS Apartments in Delhi’s Bakawala area. He claimed that the BJP not only failed to prevent the Rohingyas from entering India, but also facilitated them. Atishi also raised the question, if the Rohingya reached Delhi, how did they come to the Indian border from Myanmar?

Questions for the Center

Atish said safe border management in Delhi is the responsibility of the central government. Targeting Home Minister Amit Shah, he said resettling illegal refugees in Delhi posed a security threat. The chief minister also questioned whether these refugees were brought to Delhi deliberately and the Delhi government had no clue about the process?

Four questions for the Chief Minister

  • Where are illegal refugees placed?
  • What is the total number of people in Delhi?
  • Is the Rohingya settlement process underway in different parts of Delhi?
  • Why is the Delhi government withholding information about this process?

Call on the Minister of the Interior to take action

The chief minister asked Amit Shah to hand over the list of all illegally settled Rohingyas to the Delhi government, Delhi Police and the Lieutenant Governor (LG). He said the Delhi government should be informed before taking any such illegal step. Also, the process of resettling illegal refugees in Delhi should be stopped immediately. Atish called this a danger to security, law and order in Delhi and asked the central government to take concrete steps.
