Cheetahs’ second home ready to settle in MP, over 400 cheetahs released for food

Arrangements for the hunt were completed before the leopards were relocated to the Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh. The forest reserve has released 28 gorals. After Kuno National Park in Sheopur district, Gandhisagar Sanctuary will now become a second home for leopards.

A forest department official said that 1,250 spotted deer (chital) will be released in the Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary as part of efforts to increase the leopard prey population.

Currently, 18 male and 10 female kudus were brought from Kanha National Park and released into the fenced area of ​​Gandhi Sagar. Meanwhile, 434 spotted deer, including 120 males and 314 females, have been released in Gandhi Sagar so far.

The Kenyan delegation also came to Madhya Pradesh to visit the cheetahs’ second home. He had visited the Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary spread across Mandsaur and Neemuch districts on May 21 and 22 this year.

Let us tell you that the cheetah, declared extinct in India in 1952, was brought to Kuno National Park from Namibia and South Africa in September 2022 and February 2023 under an ambitious recovery plan. There are currently 24 leopards including cubs in the Kuno National Park.
