Delhi Capitals (DC) have appointed a new coaching staff for the Indian Premier League (IPL) with former Indian cricketer Hemang Badani appointed as head coach, Venugopal Rao Venugopal Rao was appointed Director of Cricket. The 47-year-old Badani has represented India in 4 Tests and 40 ODIs and has experience coaching in multiple cricket leagues. From 2021 to 2023, he worked as fielding coach and batting coach with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
In the Lanka Premier League (LPL), he led Jaffna Kings to two consecutive championships and in the inaugural SA20, he was the batting coach of the championship team Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Most recently, he was the head coach of Dubai Capitals, who reached this year’s ILT20 finals.
“I am honored to join Delhi Capitals and I am grateful to the team owners for their confidence in me,” Badani said in a release.

Rao has played 16 ODIs for India and was part of the Deccan Chargers team that won the IPL in 2009. He also played three IPL seasons for Delhi Daredevils and was associated with Dubai Capitals, where he served as a mentor in the first season and later as director of cricket.
“I have a long-standing relationship with the franchise and I’m grateful for the confidence the owners have shown in me offering this position,” Rao said.
Delhi Capitals finished as runners-up in the 2021 season but struggled to finish in the top four in the next three seasons. Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi welcomed Rao and Badani on board.
Sourav Ganguly appointed director of cricket at JSW Sports
JSW Sports appoints Sourav Ganguly, one of India’s most successful captains, as its new director of cricket. Ganguly joined JSW’s IPL team Delhi Capitals in 2019 as an advisor and works closely with coaches Ricky Ponting collaborates. He later became Director of Cricket at Capitals, JSW owns Delhi Capitals in the IPL and Women’s Super League, as well as Pretoria Capitals in South Africa’s SA20.
