Pakistan has won the right to host the 2025 Champions Trophy, but the BCCI refused to field a Pakistani team and asked for a hybrid model, which was completely rejected by the PCB. Because of this, there is a dilemma with the championship trophy. Now the crisis for the championship trophy has deepened further. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, led by former Pakistan captain and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, launched a protest march towards Islamabad starting on Sunday. There have been occasional clashes and violence between protesters and law enforcement and security forces. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that the army had been deployed to calm the situation. Naqvi is also the Chairman of PCB. Sri Lanka A, which is playing a three-match series against Pakistan A, will return home due to political protests in Islamabad.
Sri Lanka A team’s two games postponed
The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed that it has postponed the last two 50-over matches between Pakistan A and Sri Lanka A in consultation with the Sri Lanka Cricket Association due to political activity in the capital, Islamabad. The postponed matches were originally scheduled to be played in Rawalpindi on Wednesday and Friday. But supporters of Imran Khan’s party PTI have completely paralyzed the capital Islamabad and made a major decision in response to the protests.
New dates may be announced later
Both matches are scheduled to be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from November 27 to 29. Earlier, Pakistan A defeated the visiting team by 108 runs in the first match in Islamabad on Monday and took a 1-0 lead in the series. In the first match, Pakistan A’s batting score was 306 runs, while Sri Lanka A’s was reduced to just 198 runs. Haider Ali scored a brilliant century for Pakistan A. He played 108 innings. For his outstanding performance, he was awarded the best player award. The PCB said in a press release that the Pakistan and Sri Lanka boards will work together to determine a new date for the completion of the series.
