The Maharashtra assembly election polls are less than a week away. All parties in the state are campaigning in full force. During the election campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress and Maha Vikas Aghadi of dividing society along caste lines. After the prime minister made this allegation, the Congress party and Maha Vikas Aghadi accused the prime minister and the BJP of opposing the caste census. Congress appears to be quite aggressive on this issue.
In fact, the Congress is looking for opportunities to break the Hindutva narrative that “if we divide, we will be curtailed, if we stay united, we will be safe”. When the Maharashtra Prime Minister accused the opposition of dividing people into castes, the Rahul Gandhi-led Congress similarly decided to brand the Prime Minister and the Bharatiya Janata Party as opponents of caste census and breaking of reservations based on this statement restrictions will also enhance its commitment. Congress is formulating the narrative considering the Prime Minister’s statement against caste census.
Congress wants Maharashtra
The Congress believes that Maharashtra has always been the land of social justice. From here on, Sahu Ji Maharaj and Baba Saheb Ambedkar were the leaders of the backward and Dalit people, so the Congress could gain political advantage through this narrative. Apart from this, the booking demand of Marathas in the state can also be met with the promise of breaching the 50% booking limit. The Congress is of the view that caste census and breaking of reservation limits will not have any impact on reservation for Dalits and backward classes and the demands of those who want reservation can be met on the basis of numbers.
Congress is hopeful about the issue
In the final week of elections, with narratives of unemployment, farmers, inflation and the BJP taking projects from Maharashtra to Gujarat, the Congress will be vigorously raising this issue with the public. The Congress hopes that through this issue, it can achieve the same lead in the Lok Sabha elections as it did in the Lok Sabha elections.
SP to be in trouble in Uttar Pradesh elections
Only the Congress party does not want to capitalize on the Prime Minister’s statement against caste census. The Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh is also hoping to capitalize on the Prime Minister’s statement in the proposed by-elections in the state. The SP has fought the elections in the name of PDA and will also try to corner the BJP on the issue of caste census in the state.
