On Saturday, one male student and two female students died due to water logging in the basement of the coaching center in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi. After this accident, the action of Delhi Police and Delhi Municipal Corporation is continuing. So far 19 centers have been sealed. At the same time, the driver of the car which passed outside the coaching center at high speed before the accident was also arrested by the police and presented in the court, where Delhi Police opposed the bail plea of the accused and said that the car driver is a fun-loving person and the reason for his fun. An accident has occurred since. The court has reserved the decision after hearing the arguments of both the parties.
In fact, after the accident, it was revealed in a CCTV footage that a car had passed at high speed from the water-filled road outside the coaching centre. Only after this, water started entering the coaching center because the gate of the center was broken due to the pressure of water. On the basis of the video, the police arrested the driver of the vehicle as an accused and presented him in the court on Tuesday. Bail was sought from the court on behalf of the accused, which was opposed by Delhi Police.
‘The institution itself is guilty, how can a third party be made an accused?’
During the hearing in Tis Hazari Court of Delhi, both the parties presented their arguments. During this, the accused’s lawyer argued that he was simply driving the car. It is difficult to drive a car in such a situation, whereas they (police) say that the car moved at such a high speed.
They are trying to make him the main accused and the main criminal. What choice did I have? Should I have knocked on every door and asked if I could take my car through? According to them, driving a car at high speed is a crime here. Did they arrest me for reckless driving? No. People are hoping that the real culprit will be caught. Now the hope is from the court. The institution itself is guilty. How can a third party be made an accused? Notice has been issued to MCD officials. Why was I not given notice?
Accused can influence witnesses: Police
Whereas Delhi Police protested and said that the matter is still in the very initial stage. Whenever we see waterlogging, we slow down the speed of our vehicles. But the accused did not do so. He may influence other people, who are weak witnesses.
Why are police not catching the right people: Lawyer
On this, the lawyer of the accused driver asked whether Delhi Police is arresting people who have nothing to do with the case? Why is Delhi Police letting go of people who are actually responsible? The driver’s lawyer requested the court to see the video, on the basis of which he was arrested. The lawyer said that the brake lights were burning continuously. Is driving a car a crime? The car was not a tractor. With all due respect, I don’t understand how I, being a local, could know all this. I request the court to pay attention to the investigation so that innocent people are not caught. He has also sought bail on medical grounds.
On the other hand, Delhi Police’s lawyer says that he needs time to see the medical documents. On this the defense lawyer said that the children are still in Delhi, coaching is closed. Is on the road. Did the coaching people return the money, did the PG people return the money? What about these children? Can’t understand why the police are not catching the right people.
