In view of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, the first phase of voting will be held on November 13. Polls will be held in 43 assembly seats in Jharkhand today. By-elections for 31 assembly seats in 10 states and one Lok Sabha seat in Kerala will also be held today. Apart from this, both candidates of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha won unopposed in two seats in Sikkim. In fact, 28 of the 31 seats were vacant only because the candidates for these seats won the Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, by-elections are underway in these seats which have become vacant due to the untimely deaths of two seats and the change of parties by one candidate.
Which seats are undergoing by-elections?
West Bengal: West Bengal will hold by-elections for 6 seats. By-elections will be held in Sitai, Madarihat, Naihati, Haroa, Tardangla and Medinipur.
Meghalaya: Voters will exercise their franchise in the Gambregre (West Goro Hills) assembly seat in Meghalaya. From here, the Congress fielded Jingzang Malak and the BJP fielded Bernard Malak.
Gujarat: The by-election polling will be held in the Vav seat in Banaskantha district of Gujarat. The Congress fielded Gulab Singh Rajput and the Bharatiya Janata Party fielded Swarupji Thakur.
Bihar: Four assembly seats in Bihar will go to polls. The four assembly seats in Bihar that will go to polls include Ramgarh, Talari, Belaganj and Imaganj.
Assam: Polls will be held on 5 assembly seats in Assam. These seats include Dholai, Sidli, Bongaigaon, Bohali and Samguri assembly seats.
Kerala: By-elections will also be held in Wayanad Lok Sabha seat and Chilakkara assembly seat in Kerala.
Karnataka: By-elections will be held in three Assembly seats in Karnataka. People will exercise their franchise in Shiggaon, Sandur and Channapatna constituencies in Karnataka.
Rajasthan: By-elections will be held in seven assembly seats in Rajasthan. These seats include Jhunjhunu, Dausa, Deoli-Uniara, Khinvsar, Chaurasi, Salumber and Ramgarh assembly seats.
Chhattisgarh: The by-election will be held in Raipur South Assembly seat in Chhattisgarh. There are 30 candidates vying for this seat.
Madhya Pradesh: By-elections will be held in Budhni and Vijaypur assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh. Let us tell you that after Shivraj Singh Chauhan became a Lok Sabha member, he had to resign from this seat.
