Compared to last year, this budget has been increased by only 4.72 percent. Last year’s defense budget was a little more than Rs 5.93 lakh crore. The Finance Minister has announced Rs 1.05 lakh crore in this defense budget only so that the purchase and sale of defense from the country’s companies can be done under Self-reliant India. They can be promoted.

Construction of roads is necessary for the security of the border, hence this time the budget for border roads has been increased by 30 percent. Rs 6500 crore has been given for this. Rs 518 crore has been announced for defense startups under the iDEX scheme. So that new weapons and technology can be developed.
68 thousand crore rupees more than last year’s budget
If compared with last year’s defense budget, this year the defense budget has been increased by Rs 68,834 crore. Whereas in the year 2022-23, this budget was a little more than Rs 5.25 lakh crore. This time 27.67 percent of the budget is in capital acquisition i.e. Rs 1.72 lakh crore.

14.82 percent revenue expenditure and operational preparedness i.e. Rs 92,088 crore. 30.68% salary and allowances, 22.72% pension i.e. Rs 1.41 lakh crore. 4.11 percent has been given to civil organizations. Rs 7651 crore for Indian Coast Guard and Rs 23,855 crore for DRDO.
How and how much is this defense budget different from the interim budget?
In the interim budget presented in February this year, there was a provision of Rs 6.24 lakh crore for defence. The interim budget for the year 2025 was certainly a little less but it was the highest compared to other ministries. This is 13 percent of the entire budget of the Government of India. Whereas it is less than 2 percent of India’s entire GDP.
What has been the condition of India in defense production?
India’s annual defense production was to reach its highest level in 2023-24. During this period, defense production worth about Rs 1.27 lakh crore was made. Which is much more than last year’s Rs 1.09 lakh crore. The Defense Ministry has purchased and manufactured 12,300 defense products from Indian companies in three years. Domestic defense production is increasing.

What is the preparation for India’s future defence?
According to estimates, the Indian Military will make capital procurement of 130 billion dollars in the next five to six years. That means Rs 10.88 lakh crore. The government plans to purchase minimum defense products, equipment and weapons from abroad. Home made weapons should be used. Preparations are being made for domestic defense production worth Rs 1.75 lakh crore in the next five years. Recently, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had said that by the year 2028-29, arms exports from India will be worth Rs 50 thousand crores. It is currently worth Rs 21,803 crore.
