Government telecom company BSNL stands to gain the most from Jio, Airtel, Vi’s big mistake. A race was on between July and October to port the number to the BSNL network. The recent TRAI report has shocked private telecom companies. BSNL has added record number of subscribers to its network in the last 4 months. Except for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, there was no increase in subscribers from any other telecom operator. Mukesh Ambani’s company Reliance Jio suffered the worst losses. The country’s largest telecommunications company has lost more than 10 million subscribers.
BSNL has officially informed that in the past four months, the government telecom company has added a total of 6.5 million subscribers, i.e. 6.5 million new subscribers, of which 5.5 million users are connected to BSNL’s network through MNP.
This mistake proved costly
Mobile phone recharge plans of private telecom companies became expensive in July. Private companies have increased mobile tariffs by 25% to boost average revenue per user (ARPU). The public, already facing the brunt of inflation, has moved its numbers to BSNL, holding a mirror up to private players. Despite poor network connectivity, hundreds of thousands of users are switching to BSNL. Numbers were switched off for users using Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea numbers as secondary SIM cards.
However, BSNL has made full progress in its network expansion. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is preparing to launch 4G services simultaneously across India. The company recently installed about 51,000 new 4G mobile towers. The company has set a target of installing 100,000 4G mobile towers by June next year.
Provide 4G/5G services from next year
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently said that BSNL 4G services will be launched commercially across India in June next year. Additionally, BSNL is currently testing 5G services. A senior BSNL official recently confirmed that the company will not make the scheme expensive in the near future. The main focus of BSNL at present is network expansion and user increase.
