Today, BSNL is posing a serious challenge to private telecom companies on various fronts. The government telecom company is about to launch live TV service IFTV, which will broadcast more than 500 live TV channels for free. BSNL is currently testing the service in the telecom circles of Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Recently, the company unveiled a new logo and slogan. At the event, the company also launched a live TV service where users will be able to watch over 500 live TV channels at no additional cost.
Open challenge to Jio
This new service from BSNL will have the biggest impact on JioTV+. Mukesh Ambani’s telco is currently offering the service to its fiber broadband customers, which will allow them to watch many digital live TVs for free. However, BSNL has made it clear that its live TV service will be unique. The company describes its IFTV as an industry first.
JioTV+ service mainly works on HLS-based streaming model, which is mainly designed for Internet users. Users can access Jio’s live TV channels as per their internet package. BSNL’s live TV service does not consume data from users’ broadband plans. BSNL’s live TV service continues to function even without internet service.
To access this service from BSNL, Android users can download the company’s Live TV app directly from the Google Play Store. This application is only available for Android smartphone TVs. However, there are also reports that BSNL will integrate live TV with the company’s commercial fiber-to-the-home (FTTH). Apart from this, BSNL users will also have access to video on demand (VoD) services, which will be integrated into the company’s app.
How to use BSNL Live TV
For this, you have to download the BSNL Live TV app in your Android Smart TV. After downloading and installing the app, users have to enter their registered mobile number to use the BSNL Live TV service. Once logged into the app, users will be able to access over 500 of their favorite live TV channels. Apart from this, BSNL has also announced direct to device. Users do not need any mobile tower or SIM card to communicate. For this direct equipment service from BSNL, the company has partnered with Viasat.
