BSNL has done wonders again. Between August and October 2024, the government telecom company added 3.6 million subscribers, or about 3.6 million new subscribers. The number of BSNL subscribers has been increasing since private telecom companies Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea increased their tariffs in July. At the same time, private companies are seeing fewer users. However, coming into October, many old users of Jio and Airtel left BSNL and came back. This was revealed in a recent report.
BSNL increases maximum number of users
Data released by TRAI shows that the number of new BSNL users reached a maximum of 2.52 million in August. At the same time, the company added 380,000 new users in September and 760,000 new users in October. Meanwhile, all private companies including Airtel and Jio have lost over 10 million subscribers. The report shows that the number of BSNL prepaid subscribers has increased from 88.41 million in July 2024 to 92.04 million in October 2024. Meanwhile, the company’s postpaid subscriber base grew from 4.42 million to 4.48 million during the period.
BSNL is expanding its network across the country. The government telecom company will launch 4G services across the country in June next year. To this end, the company is installing 100,000 new 4G mobile towers, of which more than 62,000 4G towers have been installed. At the same time, the company is also preparing to upgrade its 5G network starting from April to May next year.
Private companies have expensive plans
In July, private companies decided to increase mobile tariffs to increase ARPU, or average revenue per user. Private companies’ recharge plans have cost as much as Rs 600. However, BSNL has made it clear that the company’s current focus is on network expansion and improving service quality. In this case, the company will not make its mobile plans expensive in the near future. BSNL recharge plans are 30% to 40% cheaper than plans of private companies and also offer long validity period to the users.
