The nurse went missing on July 30
This horrific incident begins from Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand. Where there is a town named Rudrapur. There is a big private hospital there. A nurse named Tasleem used to work in it. She was around 30 years old. She got married 12 years ago. But later she got divorced. She used to go to the hospital and return home every day at her fixed time. On July 30 also, she left her house on time. But even after evening, she did not return home. Her phone was also not reachable. The family members called the hospital and her acquaintances. They asked them about her. But she could not be found. Her family kept searching for her throughout the night. But she was not found.

Police registered missing person report
On 31st July, nurse Tasleem’s sister reached Rudrapur police station with her family and registered her sister’s missing report there. Now the police along with the family started looking for the nurse and started investigating the case. The police inquired about her from the hospital and all the people and relatives who knew her. But no clue was found. During this time, the family started fearing something untoward.

A skeleton-like body was found in Uttar Pradesh border
While the Uttarakhand police was searching for the nurse in Udham Singh Nagar district, on August 8, the Bilaspur police station of Rampur district of UP found a skeleton in the bushes near Dibdiba. The condition in which this body was found on Vasundhara Road made it difficult to identify it because the face was completely destroyed. The skull was clearly visible.

Post-mortem revealed rape and murder
The surprising thing was that the entire body had turned into a skeleton, but the hands and legs were looking fine. When the police searched the area, they found a woman’s ID card. That ID card was of Tasleem, who was a nurse at Futela Hospital. After this, the Bilaspur police station sent the body for postmortem. When the postmortem report came, it was revealed that the body was of a woman, who was first raped and then strangled to death. Now the UP police contacted Futela Hospital on the basis of the ID card and informed them about finding a woman’s body.

Nurse’s ID card found near the corpse
On the other hand, Rudrapur police was searching for the nurse. During investigation, police found out that on July 30, the nurse was seen returning from the hospital towards Dibdiba in Bilaspur police station area of Uttar Pradesh. Her pictures were captured in a CCTV camera installed there. After this, different teams of Uttarakhand police were deployed to search for the nurse. Meanwhile, through the hospital, Rudrapur police station got information about Tasleem’s ID card and a dead body being recovered in Bilaspur police station area of Rampur. Immediately a police team was sent to Bilaspur police station of UP.

Suspect seen in CCTV footage
Earlier, the Uttarakhand police had also put the nurse’s mobile number on surveillance. And after scanning the CCTV footage, the police saw a suspicious young man who was seen following the nurse. Now the person who was seen in the CCTV footage was on the police radar. Meanwhile, the police got an important information from the surveillance of the active phone number at the crime scene. Based on which, the Rudrapur police team reached Tursa Patti village of Sahi police station area in Bareilly district of UP. The police suspected that the woman’s murderer could be there. But the police did not find anyone there.

Location of suspect found in Rajasthan
But Uttarakhand got such an input that different police teams were formed and sent to UP, Haryana and Rajasthan. Meanwhile, the police found the location of the suspicious youth in Rajasthan. After this, Uttarakhand Police raided Jodhpur in Rajasthan and arrested a man named Dharmendra along with his wife Khushboo and then brought them to Rudrapur.

The news of rape and murder sparked people’s anger
Between 30 July and 8 August, the news of the nurse’s disappearance had spread throughout the state. People came out on the streets in the entire district including Rudrapur. When the news of the nurse’s rape and murder came out, people became angry. Protests started happening everywhere. On 15 August, the police claimed to have solved the case and presented Dharmendra as the accused in front of the media.

SSP told this story
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Udham Singh Nagar district, Dr Manju Nath TC said that during interrogation, the accused Dharmendra has confessed his crime. The accused told that on the evening of July 30, he saw the woman walking alone on the road leading to Vasundhara Colony, and his intentions became bad. Taking advantage of the darkness, the accused forcibly took the woman to the bushes, where he tried to rape the woman. But when the woman resisted, the accused slammed her head on the road and then raped her. Finally, after the rape, the accused strangled the woman with the dupatta and killed her. The police further said that after disposing of the body in the bushes, the accused fled with the nurse’s mobile and thirty thousand rupees. The police has now arrested him from Rajasthan.

Police claim
SSP Dr. Manju Nath TC had claimed that the accused Dharmendra caught the nurse, raped her and killed her. The accused has been arrested and sent to jail. Meanwhile, on 9 August, a ruckus had started in Kolkata over the rape and murder of a junior doctor. Its effect was also seen on the rape and murder of the nurse. Youth, students and many organizations were on the streets protesting against the murder of the nurse.

The victim’s family called the police’s claim a lie
In fact, no one believed the police’s story. The nurse’s family members said that the disclosure made by the police was false. The person whom the police presented before the media as an accused was a drug addict, who was forced by the police to confess the crime. Overall, the family of the deceased nurse and the public did not believe the police’s story. Therefore, now the public’s anger was directed at the police as well. People started protesting against the police as well.

The family raised the demand for a CBI inquiry
The family of the deceased nurse was constantly raising questions on the police’s disclosure. They are constantly demanding a CBI inquiry. During this time, many organizations including Congress, student union have also become vocal against the police in this case. Even the students demonstrated at the SSP office demanding a CBI inquiry into this case. In which the family of the deceased nurse also participated.

SSP lost his temper, gave a controversial statement
Seeing the uproar increasing, SSP Dr. Manju Nath TC herself came and met the protesters. But during this time, there came a time when Udham Singh Nagar SSP Dr. Manju Nath TC lost her temper while talking to the protesting students. The SSP got angry and said that she alone has not taken the contract to reform such beasts. On the demand of the protesters, the SSP said that action is being taken with full promptness in every case, but she alone has not taken the contract to eliminate the beasts spread in the society. When such people are born in the society, what can he do. The police captain also came under the scanner for such a statement. His statement became a topic of discussion. There was an uproar in the whole of Uttarakhand regarding the nurse rape and murder case.

target of opposition
Expressing concern over this matter, Kichha Assembly MLA of Udham Singh Nagar district Tilak Raj Behad said that it is very unfortunate that sisters and daughters are not safe in our small state and crime is increasing day by day. Expressing grief over the Rudrapur incident, he said that a female nurse goes to her home after working in the hospital but does not reach home. After rape, she is killed. No statement of the state Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has come out in this matter.

Now SIT has been formed for investigation
Now seeing the uproar increasing in the case of murder and rape of the nurse, the police seems to be on the back foot. After a lot of struggle and political interference in the Kolkata-like nurse murder case in Rudrapur, SSP Udham Singh Nagar has finally formed an SIT. Taking a U-turn on his first disclosure action, he has handed over the supervision of the SIT to Superintendent of Police (Crime) Chandrashekhar Ghodke. While Rudrapur Superintendent of Police (City) Manoj Katyal has been made the in-charge officer of the SIT. Other officers including Area Officer Rudrapur Niharika Tomar are also included in it as team in-charge.

When will we get answers to the questions?

There are many questions in this case, whose answers the SIT has to find. For example-

– How did the girl’s body turn into a skeleton in just 9 days? Even though her hands and legs were in good condition.
– Was the nurse’s body burnt by pouring acid on it?
– How did the nurse’s daughter’s mobile phone reach Dharmendra’s wife?
– Where is the nurse’s mobile phone?
– Who is the person seen in the CCTV footage?

When will the daughter of Rudrapur get justice?
Even after the police’s negligence came to light in the nurse rape and murder case, no action has been taken against any policeman. Now people’s eyes are on the SIT investigation. The more the case is getting delayed, the more the demand for a CBI investigation is gaining momentum. Not only this, the opposition party Congress has also started cornering the state government on this matter. Now people are only waiting for when will the daughter of Rudrapur get justice?
