IndiGo Airlines also provided information about the incident. IndiGo issued a statement saying that due to adverse weather conditions, flights from Mumbai to Chennai had to “go around”. “Due to adverse weather conditions such as rain and strong winds, the cockpit crew had to operate 6E 683 operating between Mumbai and Chennai in compliance with safety protocols,” the statement said. The airline said, “Such procedures are in line with standard protocols and pilots are properly trained to handle such situations professionally.” IndiGo said, “This is standard and safe operation by our pilots.” We have extensive training to handle situations like this with the utmost professionalism. When a safe landing is not possible, a go-around is performed, as was the case with this flight.”

Earlier, the Chennai airport suspended operations on Saturday due to strong winds and heavy rains caused by cyclone Fangal, leading to the cancellation of several flights and affecting hundreds of passengers. Parts of the airport were flooded due to heavy rain. At 6:06 pm, IndiGo posted on Twitter that the weather in Chennai has not improved and flights to and from the city are still affected. “We are continuing to monitor the situation and working to keep you informed,” the statement said.
