After taking over the investigation of financial irregularities in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the CBI raided 15 places including the house of former principal Dr. Sandeep Ghosh. The search lasted for 12 hours. Sandeep Ghosh was arrested on charges of alleged involvement in corruption, so the question is how did the investigating agency arrest him after just one day of search? What documents did the CBI find during the search, due to which he was arrested?
CBI sources claim that during the search, many incriminating documents including digital evidence were collected. Investigation of documents and interrogation of witnesses revealed many facts that point towards the allegations levelled against the accused. The evidence found so far has revealed that Dr. Sandip Ghosh caused damage to the government by entering into a criminal conspiracy with other co-accused. Similarly, he wrongly benefited himself and other accused.
Both Biplab and Suman are close acquaintances of Sandeep Ghosh
CBI sources claim that investigation has revealed that the two arrested vendors, Biplab Singha and Suman Hazra, were close acquaintances of Dr. Sandeep Ghosh. Sandeep Ghosh knew Biplab Singha since he was posted as HOD of the Orthopedic Department at Murshidabad Medical College. Biplab Singha was working there as a vendor. Dr. Sandeep Ghosh brought these two vendors to RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata after his transfer to RG Kar Medical College. After this, both the accused kept supplying materials to the medical college.
How did accused Biplab Singha take tenders?
The investigation by the central investigating agency has revealed that Maa Tara Traders owned by arrested accused Biplab Singha had a deep connection with Dr. Sandeep Ghosh. From some statements recorded in this case, the CBI has come to know that Biplab Singha used to control and operate several firms run by himself, his friends, family members, employees. Through these firms, he used to get involved in the tender process.
The investigation also revealed that Biplab Singha used to submit the documents of the above firms to make the bids competitive and finally secured the tender in the name of one of the above firms, which were mostly in the name of Maa Tara Traders, M/s Baba Loknath and Tiyasha Enterprises.
Transparent process was not followed
The investigation prima facie revealed that the process adopted by the then Principal Dr. Sandeep Ghosh in awarding the contract to M/s Maa Tara Traders was not transparent. M/s Hazra Medical, owned by Suman Hazra, another arrested accused, was also allegedly awarded several contracts from the Medical College and Hospital in a similar manner by doing RG.

CBI sources say that Hazra Medical was given many such works like purchase of sofa sets, refrigerators etc. These were not related to the supply of medical equipment. The investigation has prima facie revealed that the business of Suman Hazra’s firm had increased three times from 2021 to 2022 after joining the alliance with Dr. Sandeep Ghosh.
