JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal
There was an uproar today at a joint parliamentary committee that is considering the Waqf Bill. The contradiction between the ruling party and the opposition members has become increasingly intensified, even triggering conflicts. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee has been accused of hurling glass bottles midway through the meeting. His hand was also injured. Now, JPC chief Jagdambika Pal’s reaction to the entire incident has come to light.
JPC chairman Jagdambika Pal said Kalyan Banerjee’s attitude was not correct. His actions should also be considered by his party. I have called the Lok Sabha Speaker and given him complete information. If my attitude is biased, then he should write a letter to the Speaker. I give everyone a chance to speak, and I give them a chance again and again.
“…I will leave the committee”
He further stated that if any member said that Chairman Pal did not give him a chance to speak, then he would leave the committee. The violence in the council today was an attempt to kill someone by breaking a bottle. Thrown against a chair. I am saved by the grace of God. Insulted me in committee. There is no place for violence in the parliamentary process.
The chairman of the Judiciary Press called the incident a crime
Pal further said, I have never seen anything like this in the history of Parliament. To-day a bottle was broken and thrown at me, and perhaps to-morrow someone will come with a revolver. He was abusive in committee. The way he threw the bottle, I almost missed it. The bottle came and landed in front of me. It’s a crime, it’s a crime.
