Boeing Co. has laid off hundreds of employees in Washington state and California as part of its previously announced plan to cut about 17,000 jobs, the Associated Press reported.
Nearly 400 employees in Washington state and more than 500 in California are affected by the latest round of layoffs, it was reported Monday. The aerospace giant had earlier said it would cut 10% of its workforce over the coming months to address ongoing financial and operational challenges.
The layoffs come after a two-month strike by Boeing machinists, but CEO Kelly Ortberg clarified that the layoffs were not related to the strike. “This is the result of overstaffing,” Ortberg was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
