The body of a female junior doctor (PGT) was recovered on the morning of August 9 from the seminar hall of the fourth floor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata. At first it was said to be a case of suicide, but later evidence of rape and murder of the lady doctor was found. Doctors are protesting in medical institutions across the country including Bengal regarding this incident. Kolkata Police has arrested a suspected accused in this case, 33-year-old Sanjay Roy, who is a civic volunteer.
However, Kolkata High Court has handed over the investigation of this case to CBI. The Central Investigation Agency took over the investigation on Tuesday. The father of the deceased girl told that he was told on phone that his daughter had committed suicide. The police is trying its best to solve this case.
The girl’s father said that we have full faith in Didi (Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee). We also have our full support for the medical college students who are protesting. Everyone is sharing our sorrow, so our sorrow is reducing a little. He appealed to all political parties and their leaders to help us get justice, we do not need anything else from you. Now no one can bring my daughter back. If justice is given, his soul will also find peace and our hearts will also find solace.

A female neighbor of the deceased girl, while talking to ‘The Lallantop’, shared her experiences of August 9. He said, ‘At around 10:30 my neighbor (the mother of the deceased) hugged me screaming, wailing and crying and said that everything was over. I said what happened? He said that the news has come from the hospital that my daughter has committed suicide. I asked suicide… when, how. He said that this is what he said. Four of us, I, the girl’s parents and another friend of ours reached the hospital. Kept us standing there for three hours.
The neighbor woman said, ‘A parent whose 31-year-old daughter dies like this was kept standing for three hours. Parents kept folding their hands, show us once… show us the face of our daughter once. We were not shown. After three hours the parents were taken to the seminar hall. Father took a photo on his mobile phone and showed it to me. There was blood in his mouth. The glasses had been scratched, causing blood to come out from the eyes. There were no clothes on the body. Both legs met at right angles. One foot was on one side of the bed and the other foot was on the other side of the bed. Unless the pelvic girdle breaks, the legs cannot be like this. He was killed by strangulation.
The neighbor woman of the deceased girl said, ‘I request the Prime Minister and the President, if my message is reaching them then there should be justice for the victim’s family in this case. Whatever I said is true. All these things have been said in the post mortem report. She was a promising girl. She cracked the exam with her talent and was studying medicine. Was going to become a good doctor. This kind of incident happened very often with that 31 year old girl.
It is painful.
