Nagpur Police has arrested the driver of the luxury car of Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule’s son Sanket. This Audi car collided with several vehicles in Nagpur city. A Nagpur Police official gave this information on Tuesday.

The driver of the Audi car, Arjun Havre, was arrested on Monday night. But he was released on bail from the local police station shortly after. An officer of Sitabuldi police station told PTI in this case that no action has been taken yet against Sanket Bawankule and two others, who fled from the spot on Mankapur bridge.

Police officials said that following the incident on Monday morning, a case of negligent driving and other offences has been registered on the complaint of Jitendra Sonkambale. Sonkambale’s car was hit by the Audi car of the BJP leader’s son. When the incident happened, the people in the Audi car were returning from a beer bar in Dharampeth.

The police officer said the medical examination will also include a blood test to check for alcohol. He said they are examining CCTV footage to find out the chain of events, after which further action will be taken on all aspects, including other passengers. Sanket’s car hit several vehicles in the Ramdaspeth area, following which Haware and another passenger, Ronit Chittamwar, were arrested by the police.

The police officer said that the luxury car first hit the complainant Sonkambale’s car and then hit a moped, injuring two youths riding in it. The Audi car hit some more vehicles going towards Mankapur area. There, the vehicle hit a Polo car at a T-point. Its riders chased the Audi and stopped it near the Mankapur bridge.

The people in the Polo car stopped the two people in the Audi, who were identified as driver Arjun Haware and Ronit Chittamwar. Both of them were taken to the Tehsil police station, from where they were handed over to the Sitabuldi police for further investigation.

After the incident, Chandrashekhar Bawankule admitted that the Audi car was registered in the name of his son Sanket. The senior BJP leader said that the police should conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the accident without any bias. Appropriate action should be taken against those found guilty. The law should be equal for all.
