Rajouri, September 17: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hamid Khal on Tuesday said the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) claim of forming the next government in Jammu and Kashmir was mere “nonsense”.

He also accused the BJP of practicing democratic dictatorship. Kala spoke to media persons during his visit to Shahdara Sharif area in Thanamandi sub-division of Rajouris district.

He also chaired a joint meeting of senior officials from the National Convention and Congress.

Replying to a question, Kala said, “BJP’s claim after the elections that it will form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir is the same claim of most other political parties.” He further accused the BJP of being democratically authoritarian when asked about the BJP’s claim that it will form the government with the help of like-minded winner candidates from the Kashmir Valley, including independents.

“This is what they have done, this is how they have weakened democracy, I personally think it is despotism of democracy. The BJP has no presence in Kashmir, so the party has put out some independent proxy candidates,” he added.

When asked about the NC-Congress alliance, the PCC chief said that the alliance is working well on the ground and the cadres of both the parties are coordinating closely for better coordination. “I want to clarify that the NC-Congress alliance is not just a seat-sharing alliance, but an alliance for a larger purpose and was formed on the call of the people,” Kala said, further saying, “The people insisted on us forming this alliance to stop the divisive politics and policies of the BJP.”

The JKPCC president said that the elections in Jammu and Kashmir were not normal but important for the identity of the people and to get back all the rights that were taken away from them. On the criticism of the BJP on the NC electoral alliance, Kala said, “The NC’s mandate was good for the BJP till the NC entered into an alliance with them but now the relationship between the NC and the Congress is not good.”

On the El Rasheed issue, Kara said the arrest and now bail was a constitutional issue but his presence in a democracy was his right but he was being hyped up unnecessarily.
