Bihar: A murder case has been recommended after a police officer died at a BPSC examination centre.
After an officer of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) died during the competitive examination held at Bapu Examination Center in Patna on December 13, the state government recommended registration of a murder case. The incident took place when anti-social elements tried to prevent the exams from taking place at the examination centre. Police officers at the scene said in their reports that the riot caused a traffic jam and prevented the officer from being rushed to the hospital in time and he died.
Around half a million candidates appeared for the exam, which was held at Bapu Examination Centre. After the police and district administration brigade learned that anti-social elements were trying to stop the exam, they rushed to the spot and took action. The report also said that more than 5,000 candidates were present during the exam and they came forward claiming that the test papers had been leaked. Later, the riots intensified and the police had to intervene. Meanwhile, during the riots, an army officer named Ram Iqbal Singh suffered a heart attack and later died.
What did the district magistrate say?
District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh said the matter was under investigation and he had made it clear that strict action would be taken against such incidents. The government has formed police teams to review CCTV footage and identify anti-social elements. In addition to this, there is a plan to investigate communications between students in the examination room and external parties, whose role in the entire incident is questionable. During the examination at the examination center, some anti-social elements tried to snatch the test papers and also hijacked the person in charge of the examination center.
Statement from BPSC Officials
In response, the district government claimed that 5,671 candidates successfully completed the exam, while the remaining candidates tried to stop the exam. The magistrate also expressed the possibility of coaching institutions playing a role in the investigation of the matter and took the allegations related to them seriously.
Currently, in response to this case, BPSC officials and the district administration have stated that strict action will be taken against all culprits after investigation. The government has also warned of legal action against those who try to block the exam. So far, two FIRs have been registered in the matter and investigation is ongoing.
