Patna, Dec 18 (PTI) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary asserted that the state is fully prepared through improved infrastructure and better law and order status, creating a strong business ecosystem while assuring domestic and global businesses that their investments are “safe”.

In an interview with PTI Podcast, Chaudhry, who is also the finance minister, highlighted the steps the state government is taking to change the image of Bihar and attract investments into the state to create jobs and achieve higher economic growth.

The state government will organize the ‘Bihar Business Connectivity’ summit here on December 19 and 20 to attract investments.

“Under the guidance of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar is fully prepared to create a strong business ecosystem. Bihar is ready to work with you Stand together and give you all the support you need to succeed,” Chowdhury said.

He invited domestic and foreign businesses to visit Bihar and said the government was ready to provide assistance and cooperation for mutual development.

Addressing investors ahead of the mega event, Chaudhry said, “I strongly believe that Bihar is a safe state” and its infrastructure is “strong”.

Choudhary said the state government is increasing power generation capacity from about 3,800 MW to about 8,000 MW.

“We will ensure adequate power, provide subsidies, support through various incentives and strive to help investors progress by providing financial assistance,” the deputy prime minister promised.

He further said that the state is providing incentives for setting up industries, providing electricity subsidy and exemption from GST.

When asked which sectors had investment potential, Chowdhury said food processing had great opportunities.

“I think food processing units are very important, especially in 38 districts where 38 products are our hallmark. Here, we are aiming to set up food processing units,” he said.

Recently, the Deputy Minister said that the state has received approval for approximately 3.6 million liters of ethanol production capacity.

“More ethanol plants need to be set up in Bihar… This will be crucial for farmers who grow maize, rice and other cereals as we will be able to sell them directly to ethanol plants and also Availability of funds will be ensured,” he said.

Chaudhry said the state government will also promote the development of micro, small and medium enterprises.

“We will support the development of small industries and encourage SHGs (self-help groups) at the grassroots level, where 10-15 sisters will work together in small industries to create employment opportunities. This will continue to drive our progress in Bihar ,” he said.

On job creation, Chowdhury said the government will ensure local job creation.

“Bihar has the lowest labor supply and hence will play an important role. We will focus on skill development here. We will ensure that the factories being set up in Bihar have access to skilled labor and we will take care of providing employment to the local people Chance.”

On the physical infrastructure front, Chaudhry said Bihar has recently commissioned two airports.

“Purnia is about to be completed, Bihta is about to be launched and we are working on completing the Raxaul airport. We are also building four to five airports, including Bhagalpur and Rajgir.”

The state is also working towards improving connectivity through three options: road, air and water.

The state government is also studying how to manage floods in North Bihar and water shortage in South Bihar, he said.
