Mohammad Shami has been included in Bangladesh’s 20-man squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy as he looks to prove his suitability for the Test series in Australia. After the second Test in Adelaide, Rohit Sharma had said that the door is fully open for Shami to join the Australia team, but he hoped that Shami could return to the team only after he is fully fit. India are currently playing the third Test in Brisbane and the fourth Test will begin in Melbourne on December 26.

Shami, who last played for India in the 2023 ODI World Cup, underwent ankle surgery in February this year. He then made a comeback in the Ranji Trophy in November and took seven wickets against Madhya Pradesh. Thereafter, he played all nine matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Bangladesh and took 11 wickets at an economy rate of 7.85. However, during this match, he suffered some swelling in his knee, which hampered his preparation for Test cricket.

Competition starts on December 21st

Apart from Mohammad Shami, fast bowler Mukesh Kumar is also part of the Bengal team, which will be led by Sudeep Kumar Gharami. The team will begin their campaign against Delhi on December 21 in Hyderabad. All players will travel to Hyderabad from Kolkata on Wednesday. The Vijay Hazare Trophy will be held from December 21 to January 18. A total of 38 teams participated in this Group A competition.
