Big drugs racket busted in Punjab, three including woman arrested with 6 kg heroin

Police has busted a big drug smuggling gang in Punjab. Police have recovered more than six kilograms of heroin from the possession of the accused in Firozpur district. Two people including a woman have been arrested in this case.

Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav said that Rs 6 lakh in cash has also been recovered from the smugglers. The arrested people have been identified as Simran Kaur alias Indu (38), resident of Moga, and Gurjot Singh (28), resident of Jaimal, Moga.

According to the news agency report, both the arrested accused have criminal background and at least 15 criminal cases are registered against Simran related to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Jail Act etc.

Caught by police while going for delivery

DGP Yadav said that Firozpur police had received a credible input that Simran and Gurjot had recovered a huge consignment of narcotics dropped using a drone from across the border and were going to deliver it to someone in their car.

He said that the police set up a check post on Old Mudki Road and arrested both the accused. 6.65 kg heroin was seized along with Rs 6 lakh cash hidden in the car.

Smuggling of drugs from Pakistan across the border

DGP said that all his records and relations are being investigated for further investigation in this matter. Regarding this matter, Ferozepur SSP Soumya Mishra said that after working on technical inputs, a police team successfully conducted the operation and seized the drugs late on Wednesday night.

He said that investigation is going on to identify the drug smugglers from Pakistan and the people to whom the drug consignment was to be delivered. The SSP said that the police will also start the process of confiscating the illegally acquired property of the smugglers arrested under the NDPS Act.
