2025 Champions Trophy: The 2025 Champions Trophy will be hosted in Pakistan. Pakistan is making every effort to ensure that the championship trophy falls to their country. But whether the Indian delegation will visit Pakistan has not yet been determined and the BCCI has left the final decision to the Indian government. The PCB has announced the draft schedule of the Champions Trophy, in which all India’s matches are scheduled to be played in Lahore. The PCB also said that the Indian team can come to Lahore just to play the match if they wish. The team will immediately return to India on a special flight. But now Pakistan’s attitude towards the Champions Trophy seems to have softened.
Championship trophies can be organized in mixed mode
A reliable source in the PCB told PTI that the PCB believes that even if the Indian government does not approve the Pakistan tour, some changes in the schedule can be made as there is a high possibility that India will play in Dubai or Sharjah. As far as the ICC is concerned, it cannot force any board to go against its government policy and it will be interesting to see when the BCCI takes a final decision on the matter. When a final decision is likely to be made, the ICC will be headed by India’s Jay Shah. Meanwhile, the PCB is pressuring the ICC to announce the tournament schedule by next week as some top officials from the global governing body plan to visit Lahore again next week.
India match is likely to be held in UAE
According to PTI, the Champions Trophy can be held in a hybrid mode, in which the Indian team’s match can be held in the UAE. The last time Pakistan hosted the Asia Cup, in 2023, it was also held in a “hybrid format” with India playing in Sri Lanka as the government refused to allow players to travel across the border.
PCB spends crores of rupees to renovate stadium
Sources said the PCB had discussed with the ICC the possible schedule sent a few months ago and is hoping to announce the same on November 11. He told the ICC that an alternative plan for a revised budget was already in place, so there was no need to delay the release of a possible timetable. Sources said the PCB wants the BCCI to inform them in writing whether they have received permission from the government to send their team to Pakistan. According to sources, the PCB will spend around Rs 1,300 crore to renovate stadiums in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi, where Champions League matches will be held.
