Bengal: The ED raided the residences of former principal of RG Kar Hospital Sandeep Ghosh and TMC MLA Sudipta Roy.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has raided the farmhouse of former principal Dr Sandeep Ghosh over alleged financial irregularities at the RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. The ED had received information about some irregularities during Sandeep Ghosh’s tenure. An ED team also raided the house and nursing home of Kolkata North TMC MLA Sudipta Roy. Sudipta Roy is the TMC MLA from Shrirampur and the chairperson of the West Bengal Health Recruitment Board. He was the president of the Patients Welfare Association of the RG Kar Hospital.

A few days ago, CBI raided Sudipta Roy’s house and nearby nursing home in the RG Kar hospital rape and murder case. Now the ED is conducting raids in the corruption case.

Sandeep Ghosh detained by CBI

On September 15, former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandeep Ghosh and Tala police station in-charge Abhijeet Mandal were sent to three-day CBI custody. The duo was arrested on Saturday in the female doctor’s rape-murder case. A request for three-day custody was made to the special CBI court, which accepted the request. Today, September 17, both the accused will be produced before the court.

The case was filed on August 19

Dr Akhtar Ali, former vice-chancellor of RG Kar Medical College, filed a complaint against Sandeep Ghosh alleging financial irregularities at the college. These included allegations of smuggling of bodies in the hospital, corruption in bio-medical waste, nepotism in construction tenders, etc. On August 19, a case was registered against him under Sections 120B, 420 of the IPC and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

On August 9, the body of a 31-year-old female doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The post-mortem report showed that the victim was brutally raped before being murdered. A day after the incident, the Kolkata police arrested the accused, Sanjay Roy.
