Rajouri, September 14: Senior National Congress (NC) leader and MP Mian Altaf today said he and his party are confident of forming a government with the Congress after the assembly elections.
He assured the people that land rights would be regulated.
He held election rallies in Khawas and Peeri in Budhal constituency in support of NC candidate Javed Iqbal Choudhary.Mian Altaf said that the BJP regime has been trying to make lakhs of people in Jammu and Kashmir landless for the past 10 years.
He said that after the National Congress Party came to power, the new government would regularize the land rights of the people in the affected areas.
“For the past six years, the BJP regime has violated the land rights of people in rural and urban areas. This has created uncertainty in the most basic human right – housing,” the MP said.
The Nepali Congress leader pointed out that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will never forget New Delhi’s unilateral decision to abrogate Articles 370 and 35A and downgrade a historic state to a union territory.
He said that in the ongoing assembly elections, people are ready to send a message to the BJP through the power of votes that downgrading the state to a Union Territory is a stain on India’s federal constitutional system. Mian Altaf alleged that the BJP regime spent crores of rupees to falsely promote their achievements, such as the Forest Rights Act, but in reality nothing was achieved.
Mian Altaf said: “This election is the first major opportunity for the people to restore the government they elected before a long struggle to restore the collective rights taken away by the BJP.” He said that the Nationalist Congress’s candidate for the Buddar constituency, Javed Iqbal Chowdhury, was a true grassroots leader who rose from the level of village headman to member of parliament.
Mian Altaf said: “Javed has made significant contributions to social and political change in the Buddar constituency through hard work and dedication.” He called on the people to repay his kindness by voting in large numbers for him. He pointed out that the area of Buddar constituency has always been a victim of exploitative politics, but Javed has stimulated political awareness among the masses.
